Waiting on a Train
Larry Coryell is an amazing guitarist. We have been fortunate to see him a few times with other bands and as an acoustic solo artist. Steeler nation will begin to shift their focus from Baseball to Football today as the Steelers Training Camp opens in Latrobe Pennsylvania today. I love spectator sports and this year has been a really fun season for me because the Pirates and White Sox are both doing so well. But quite honestly, basketball, hockey and baseball are all waiting around for Steelers Football to start. This shot of Brett “The Diesel” Keisel was taken at training camp in 2008. A few months ago I published a few images from my book in progress (Just a Kiss) and a lot of people liked Giverny Kiss. This image was taken a few seconds before as the two young lovers sat in contemplation of one of the most romantic spots on earth, the Water Gardens at Giverny. Today, anybody with Photoshop can make this image. It was not so easy in 1976. I studied the technique of Jerry Uelsmann and after a number of failures made this in my Darkroom using the dodging and burning techniques perfected by Uelsmann. This won first place at the Indiana University Invitational New Artist Exhibition in 1976 and later hung in Carnegie Museum as part of an Associated Artists of Pittsburgh exhibition. Albert Pujols has been called The Machine. He is one of the most powerful hitters in baseball today and maybe all time. Unfortunately, we got to see him prove it at a recent Yankee game. There is no doubt that the number two will be retired after Derek Jeter hangs it up. He will join, Ruth, DiMaggio,Mantle and Gehrig as one of the greatest Yankees ever. Number 2 Derek Jeter
I remember as a kid watching Roberto Clemente in Pittsburgh. He would exhaust pitchers. It seemed sometimes he would hit twenty foul balls in a row with that perfect graceful swing. Sure a foul ball is a strike but if you hit a lot of them, the pitcher gets tired and eventually gives up something to hit. Maybe you won’t get the hit, maybe it will be the next hitter in the order but if you keep hitting fouls one things is for sure and that is eventually the pitcher will become exhausted. Foul Ball
He is a polarizing figure. Some people hate him just because he is a Yankee, some because he cheated on his wife and some think he is a juicer. He is also a big strong man with a perfect swing. Here he is staring down the fast ball that would be his 643rd home-run. Like him or hate him, he is a pretty good ball player. On July 15th, my wife (a life long Yankee Fan) and I went to see our first Yankee Game in the very beautiful and expensive Yankee Stadium. $50 tickets got us seats in the third level terrace which was a nice hike on a hot and humid day. However, it was still great fun and wonderful to see the “little girl” face on my bride of 41 years. In this picture you gotta think he had a beautiful swing put where is that confounded bat?
