Street performers in Mexico are a whole lot different than in the United States or other countries. Most wear exotic costumes and frequently have exotic pets like large snakes or or lizards with them. This group was seen performing outside the entrance to Tulum in Quintana Roo.

Last year I published an article on Marksburg Castle. Here are some additional views of the castle not in the original post.
Along the Rhine River is a stretch known as the Rhine Gorge which is a UNESCO world heritage site. Forty castles line both sides of this section of the river. Marksburg is the only castle that was never destroyed and sits above the town of Braubach. The fortress was used for protection rather than a residence for royal families.

This year was the 20th Anniversary of Pittsburgh’s unique art festival; Art All Night. It started in 1998 with 101 pieces of art and 200 all night art lovers. It now draws hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors. The show is not juried and free to enter and attend.
The festival runs for 24 hours beginning on Saturday and ending on Sunday afternoon in an empty warehouse in the Lawrencville neighborhood of Pittsburgh. There are two stages in that provide continuous music. Vendors sell food and beer. Volunteers tell stories to children and provide free face painting.
Saturday night is raucous with lots of beer and food being served. Sunday is relaxed and laid back and the music is less rock and more folk. This was our first year attending, next year we will go Saturday night and maybe shoot some video.

I am in the process of trying to reboot my exhibition career. In the past I have participated in five exhibitions and am hoping to participate in a two man show this autumn with a friend in the Pittsburgh area. I am thinking of limiting my part of the exhibition to display work that was captured at a decisive moment. This is a slide show of some of the current candidates. Of course this could be entirely different by show time.

For a city that was almost bombed out of existence, Cologne (Koln) has a historic sense of humor. The old city hall has been restored including the statue at its base of a man mooning the tax collector. The late Gothic style tower has an impressive 130 stone statues and the famous “Platzjabbeck”. This is a an ugly human male face that sticks its tongue out when the tower clock strikes the hour.

I have published a few times about the smartest dog I have ever owned and that was our Border Collie: Deuce. After Deuce died I printed this quartet of images recorded during the same session. I didn’t like it enough to publish it back then but my wife loved it and took it to her classroom at school.
Long forgotten it reappeared yesterday and it made me sentimental for the ol boy. So here is Deuce when he was young.

Last week I posted some images form the Spring Flower Show at the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. Here are a couple of more views from our visit.

The Phipps Conservatory has a sophisticated power system using solar, passive solar, hydroelectric and wind to power their state of the art Conservatory. This view is from the roof area adjacent to the solar farm and shows their new wind turbine. In the back is the beautiful Gothic Cathedral of Learning of the University of Pittsburgh.
