At Peace by the Sea

While we drove our little golf cart around Isla Mujeres we were never far from the Carribean Sea. We eventually left the town area and went down a little hill headed towards South Point and stumbled on this small cemetery right by the sea.

It was beautiful and quiet and the most colorful cemetery we have ever seen. I have never seen a burial ground quite like this and it had made me want to research other modern Mexican cemeteries.

Sunset in Cancun

It takes a dedicated photographer to capture a sunrise. You have to get up in the dark, get yourself awake and to the location and be alert enough to remember how the camera works. Sunsets are much easier. You may not be awake each day at sunrise unless you are Ben Franklin but we are all awake for sunset every day. This sunset was taken at Las Islas Shopping Center in Cancun Mexico.

In Flight

If you have followed this blog at all you probably know that I love pelicans. For every pelican picture I publish there are fifty I don’t. Their method of fishing makes them balletic when hitting the water. It is different each time. They are also large birds and beautiful in flight. This is a Mexican brown pelican in flight over the beach in Cancun.

Skippy the Pelican

I photographed this pelican on Isla Mujeres on the dock near the turtle farm. All he wanted to do was sit on the post at the end of the pier. However, the kids would run out to the edge of the pier which made him nervous and he would jump into the little harbor and wait until they left. He would then skip along the water and fly back up to his post. I saw him do this a few times before I finally got a picture of him skipping on the water.

Self Kiss

I have been working on a concept book for a while, “Just a Kiss” and collecting candid images of people kissing in public from around the world. I still need many more before it will ever become a book. This is the newest one taken two weeks ago in Cancun Mexico. I think it is a good comment on today’s narcissistic society where some people need to photograph every thing they do.

The Birdman of Pittsburgh

We have sold our house and are preparing to move ourselves back home to Pittsburgh. We left Pittsburgh in 1978 and have lived in State College PA, Dallas Texas, Smithtown Long Island,Montclair New Jersey and the Pocono Mountains since then. I took this the year before I left in Market Square. We always called this guy “The Birdman”. I wonder why?

Candidate #13…High Tide on the Bay of Fundy

I am going to be posting images that I may have posted before with a candidate # thereby collecting a list of what I feel would be likely candidates to print for a gallery show of Photojournalism. This one was taken at high tide at Digby Neck on The Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia in the early 1980″s. Please feel free to leave comments if you agree or disagree about including them in a “best of” list.

Candidate #12—Flight

I am going to be posting images that I may have posted before with a candidate # thereby collecting a list of what I feel would be likely candidates to print for a gallery show of Photojournalism. This was taken at the Piazza del Duomo, Milano, Italy. I love the different ways each member of the family reacts to the bird. You can read, fear, exhilaration, pleasure and boredom on the different faces. Please feel free to leave comments if you agree or disagree about including them in a “best of” list.

Friday Night in Paris

This is my best viewed video ever with over 1500 views on Vimeo and Youtube so let’s revisit Pari-Roller. It’s Friday night in Paris. Thousands will gather at Gare Montparnasse to skate through the city at night. I liked it so much I even made a T-shirt which you can buy a T-Shirt at my commercial site by clicking here.

Millennium Park–Tenth Anniversary

The Chicago Park District is the oldest and largest park district in the U.S. It has the distinction of spending the most per capita on its parks, even more than Boston in terms of park expenses. The Chicago Park District oversees more than 580 parks with over 8,100 acres of parkland as well as 24 beaches, 77 pools, 11 museums, two world-class conservatories, 16 historic lagoons and 10 bird and wildlife gardens that are found within the city limits.

Lincoln Park was Chicago’s first large park and Millennium Park is the newest large park. Millennium Park contains a Frank Geary designed band shelter and auditorium and the world famous Cloudgate (The Bean) and the famous Crown Fountain. In addition to many permanent sculptures they bring in temporary installations. These giant heads are on display until December 2015. They were created by Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa who also created the Crown Fountain and are there to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of Millennium Park.
