There is a scenic drive in California that is not to be missed. It is called 17-Mile Drive and is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach on the Monterrey Peninsula. There are many scenic views along the drive like the Lone Cypress and the Famous Pebble Beach Golf Course. There is a small island off shore that is called Seal island which was one of the highlights for me because I love seeing wildlife in a natural environment. Time for a Beer?

People will argue about anything. One of the most frequent arguments you hear in taverns and bars is which beer is the best. This argument is specious at its core. It is like saying which food is best. In summer one may choose a lighter beer and on Saint Patrick’s Day, anything but Harp or Guinness is just not proper in my opinion. However, it is also in my opinion that the best beer in the world comes from Belgium. With over 2000 beer brands you have a world of choice in Belgium. When you walk across the Clemente Bridge in Pittsburgh to go to PNC Park it is closed to traffic during baseball games. A Night at the Ball Park

When I went to see the Pirates play in Pittsburgh, I only had my 50mm- 300mm zoom lens so I was unable to take the “definitive scenic shot” of PNC park. I did get a few shots that provide a little bit of the feel of being in this wonderful baseball park. I grew up with Forbes Field and hated it when the Pirates didn’t have their own field and had to share with the Steelers. This ballpark provides the same kind of feel that Forbes Field except of course with more modern conveniences and better food. See more images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial site.

When I took this picture I was focusing on the action at second base. Only during post production did I notice the bubble being blown by the center fielder. At first I thought there were two balls in the frame. Imagine if the ball was coming to the outfielder and the bubble exploded in his face as he was making the catch. I said earlier this week that a Photographer had to give themselves permission to observe people. My wife said this shot was intruding and, yes it is but it honestly captures a moment of human expression. As a photojournalist your image should capture a decisive moment, a human expression or a moment of action. That is the way Henri Cartier Bresson teaches and who can argue with that?

Only in Da Burgh!

Before the game, I spoke “Pirate” to a barkeep outside the stadium and ordered grog for a mere pittance of what it cost inside the stadium. Of course the barkeep was a Pirate with eye-patch,bandana and parrot on his shoulder. I have of course seen the Presidents run in Washington and the Sausages run in Milwaukee on television but was totally surprised by the Perogies and thought about the days of “Babushka Power” You can see other images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial site.

There is no better place to observe people than at the baseball park. Each park has it’s unique character and feel from the building and from the people who attend. You can tell that U.S. Cellular Field exhibits the soul of Chicago. I have never been to Wrigley so I can’t compare the two ballparks. The people at The Cell remind me of “my people”, the fans I grew up with at Forbes Field as a youth.The drink beer, eat Kielbasa and love their team. These two look to me like pure Chicago.
