One of the best reasons to travel through France is the food. Sure the gardens are great and monuments are spectacular but the food rivals both. Even a simple meal in a Cafe is special and the food on the street is also worthy. Items that can only be purchased in high class restaurants in the United States are common in France like duck and rabbit. This is some crispy succulent Duck Confit at a Paris Bistro. Pétanque at Champs de Mars
Throughout France you see people playing this game in parks and at the beach. Pétanque is like Bocce but does not require a special court and can really be played anywhere. The game originated in 1907 in La Ciotat, in Provence and is uniquely French as horseshoes is uniquely American. You can buy a print of these players at Champs de Mars near the Eiffel Tower at my commercial site by clicking here.
Castle in the Trees
Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria Germany is the castle that Disney models for the centerpiece of their amusement parks. It is sometimes called the Fairytale castle although the life of the creator, Ludwig II was anything but a fairytale. You can buy a print of this image at my commercial site by clicking here.
Bandelier National Monument
Near Los Alamos New Mexico is a great American national treasure, Bandelier National Monument. The place is much like it was when Native Americans lived there and not far from some reservations where native Americans still live in the style of their grandfathers. A great place to hike and see the natural treasures of the area where you can visualize the life style of three hundred years ago. Sunny Summer Sunflowers
Nothing means summer more to me than seeing sunflowers in bloom. Sunflowers are right up there with boston coolers, watermelon and ball games. These are Canadian sunflowers that I captured wile visiting the Jardin botanique de Montréal which is a wonderful place to visit while in Montréal. In addition to the many different gardens their is a large Insectarium which many people love. I will stick with the flowers. You can buy a print of this image at my gallery by clicking here.
Ewwww!
I love the art of street photography. I think I like it because if you do it right, the photographer is only recording and not impacting the emotion or action of a scene. Ever since I learned about the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle I felt an obligation as a photographer to minimize the observer effect when shoot on the street. This was taken while waiting for my family while they were shopping in Chicago. Had the young lady seen me, I doubt if she would have reacted so strongly to the Wicked Advertisement. Life Finds a Way
I am always amazed when I visit the desert as to how much life there is. I have seen the dessert in New Mexico and Arizona in bloom years ago but even in the dry times there is life. When we visited Indian Canyons in Palm Springs we followed a little spring and watched the signs of life along it’s boundaries. The Pigeons of Santa Maria Nascente
In the center of Milan is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Nascente also known as the Milan Cathedral and Il Duomo Milano. It seems that outside every major european cathedral you will find a group of pigeon Handlers and peddlers selling corn or pigeon food to tourists. I personally don’t touch pigeons, although I have eaten a couple. I worry about disease and such. In this picture you can see a spectrum of human emotions; fear, excitement, wonder and terror. You can buy a print of this on my commercial gallery by clicking here.
Firenze Italia
Italy has a lot of beautiful cities but Firenze (Florence) is certainly one of the best jewels on the necklace. What makes it so special is it’s location in the mountains along the Arno river and its history of being the centre of Italian culture for so long. When your city can boast bridges built by Michelangelo, you know it is special. This is a view of the city from a park just outside taken during a brief rain shower.
