Scofield House–Sturgeon Bay

We had never really spent any time in Wisconsin so we left our daughter’s house in Chicago and headed north for a couple of days. We walked along the beach of Lake Michigan, chased seagulls, had a picnic lunch and headed north to Sturgeon Bay. This lovely little town is reminiscent of New England and for Chicagoans it is like their “Maine”. We stayed at a wonderful Bed and Breakfast, The Scofield House, which was filled with beautiful antique furniture and comfortable modern amenities. We were greeted with home made cookies and Breakfast was enough to last until dinner. We highly recommend it. See more scenic views on my commercial site by clicking here.

The Pitch Count

Well I am back from a nice holiday with family and friends. Along the way, got to see the Chicago White Sox play the Oakland Athletics at Cellular Field. The game was great, the fans were fun and those folks know how to make and grill encased meat. In any case I started to take some blurred motion pictures of the Pitchers and it really helped me to understand why pitchers are on a pitch count. In real time, you say big deal, but when you blur the motion you can see the incredible torque of the throwing motion. A Pan Asian Great in Orléans France

Our last stop in Europe was Orléans France. We had had a number of great pan asian meals in Paris including awesome Sushi. As we were touring Orléans it was way past lunch time and we were studying our map to try to figure out where all the restaurants were. A beautiful young French woman asked if we were lost and we said,no just hungry. My wife wanted to speak French to her and she wanted to speak english to us. She told us she was headed towards “restaurant row” and she would guide us. After walking with her and chatting for about ten minutes we came out in an area loaded with restaurants. Park Kiss

What causes a couple to suddenly kiss? The warm sun, a beautiful sunny day, the joy of being alive or is it something sexual. As I work on my new book, I am finding out that people kiss for a variety of reasons and most of them unrelated to their loins. Sure passionate kisses are part of romance but people kiss as a form of greeting or when saying goodbye. People hug and kiss to express joy and to console people in moments of sadness. Paris is the City of Lights and nighttime seems to be a social lubricant for kissing. As I am working on my book, I also realize that night time kisses in public are harder to capture. There is something about Paris that causes people to kiss. People think of Paris as the most romantic city in the world. Like most big cities it has its share of crime, beggars,street hustlers,sidewalk vendors and shady people. However, when touring Paris with your spouse or significant other you just can’t help but kiss more. Maybe it is in the water or the wine? Mirror with a Canal View

A lot of tourists miss the canal area of Milan. There are a number of clubs in the area and it is close to some less desirable areas of the city. However, the canal is also lined with antique shops and charming cafes. Den Waag in Amsterdam

One of the most beautiful buildings we saw in Amsterdam was Den Waag (The Weigh House) which dates back to the old fortifications of the city. As we walked towards it we knew nothing about it. We thought it was a castle and maybe we could get a tour. Turns out it is now a cafe and quite a good one. Being hungry, we stopped for lunch and the food was as wonderful as the candlelit interior. The Thunderbolt–Kennywood Park

Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh has been around for a long time and like any amusement park they periodically upgrade their rides. When I was a kid we had the Jackrabbit,Pippin and the Racing Coasters. In 1968 they remodeled the Pippin and turned the old wooden roller coaster into The Thunderbolt which we waited for with great anticipation.
