Anne Frankhuis Amsterdam

The only time I ever went to the Anne Frankhuis I only had a two megapixel digital camera with me. It was in 2002 and their weren’t too many cameras that higher resolution and since I didn’t have high speed film, the digital camera was the only choice. As I looked out of the window staring at the tree that she saw every day and wrote about, a group of school children were marching by on their way to school. It struck me in an instant that she witnessed this same scene every day as she was cut off from being a children. It still brings tears to my eyes. Place de Armes Montréal

Montreal is unmistakably a French City in the Canadian Province of Québec. You may forget that because most people speak English and the city is very cosmopolitan. If you speak English they will speak English and if you speak French they may have some trouble understanding you since their dialect is different than the French that is taught in USA schools. Although we are closer to Québec, we teach French in the way it is spoken in France. This is something I have never completely comprehended. This is the beautiful Place de Armes as taken from the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral (yes there is also a Notre Dame in Montréal). Walking the Board

Waikiki Beach is world famous and crowded. It is like South Beach but on Oahu. You can see everything in Waikiki, surfing, swimming, sailboarding, street hustlers,vacationeers and scam artists. It is expensive to stay right on the beach and also expensive to rent surfboards there. These two young lady surfers found a very practical way for carrying their boards back to their lodgings. Trocadéro Plaza in Paris France

Millions of people visit the Eiffel Tower each year and going to the top is a rite of passage and offers one of the most famous view of Paris France. However, if you want to SEE the Eiffel Tower don’t cross the river. It is so large that the best place to view the tower is across the river on the famous Trocadéro Plaza. It is also a great spot to watch the sunset with the tower in front of the sun. Thousands come to the plaza each night just to see the sunset. If you get there early enough you can enjoy dinner from one of the many great cafes that offer views of the tower. You can buy a print of this image at my gallery by clicking here.

Frankfurters at Pari-Roller

Friday night is Pari-Roller night in Paris. Thousands of skaters gather to skate through the streets of Paris until sunrise. They leave from Gare Montparnasse and at ten P.M. on a new route through Paris each week. In Frankfurt Germany they skate through the city on Tuesday night. Monet’s Water Garden at Giverny

Outside of vernon France about an hour from Paris is Monet’s house at Giverny. I always had the feeling that Monet was near sighted and too vain to wear glasses which explained his unique style. However, after seeing his house and gardens at Giverny I changed my opinion. I think he painted what he saw. This photo has great depth of field and is in focus, yet it is “soft” in appearance due to the willow trees and other vegetation. You can buy a print of this image at my gallery by clicking here.

Sunday at the Park

Paris is like any other major city, things slow down on Sunday. In the summer people have a lot of Parks to choose from in Paris. Parc Monceau,Jardin des Tuileries and Jardin du Palais Royal are some of the better known spots. However, my favorite is the Jardin du Luxembourg adjacent to Luxembourg Palace which is the center of the French Government. It is very large with many different spaces and you can see lovers kissing, joggers jogging and some of the most beautiful gardens in the world. This image sums up Sunday in Paris to me. The High Heat!

How do you watch a baseball game? I watch the pitcher and try to follow the release to the hitter. I try to follow the pitcher’s motion and the ball. It is hard when the ball is traveling almost 100 miles per hour. As a result though, I have started to the analyze the pitchers form. Each one is different and you see different things if you stop motion and blur motion. Maybe there is a book in this? What did you learn for this picture? Let me know! The Padlocks on the Seine In Paris

When we visited Paris last summer we knew that there was a tradition of people putting Padlocks on the bridge at Pont de l’Archevêché. Our travels did not take us over that bridge this time but we saw the that there were also locks on the bridge at Pont des Arts. You can read more about this in the David Lebovitz article on the subject called The Padlocks of Paris.. Basically lovers put a padlock on the bridge to celebrate their love. Officials seem to be letting people do this on these two bridges and I know next time we visit we will have a padlock with us. You can see more prints of Europe in my gallery by clicking here.
