This year I am happy to serve on the board of Run Around The Square which is a 5K race and fun run in the Regent Square neighborhood of Pittsburgh. It is also in my opinion the best race of its kind in Pittsburgh. Now Pittsburgh has a lot of footraces including the Pittsburgh Marathon. However in our race you get to run through Frick Park and with musicians entertaining the runners along the route. At the end of the race there are free hot dogs, soft drinks and beer in Fern Hollow. It’s kind of of hard to top that and the hot dogs are from D’s SixPax and Dogz our very own Hot Dog emporium.
I will probably be writing about this a lot during the year but registration has just opened for the race which takes place on nAugust 27. To register for the 5K or the one mile fun run (with or without your dog), follow this link.
We have been back from Florida for two weeks now. Hole up in our mountain abode surrounded still by mountains of snow. Fortunately the snow is melting slowly so we can avoid some local flooding. Each day we watch the temperature creep up into the high twenties or low thirties and opt to walk on the treadmill watching episodes of Warehouse 13. I wish I could teleport and just take a walk on the beach. Note to self,”Stay south through March!”.
A great place to dine in Milan is in the Brera which is one of the arts districts in the City. It was not far from our hotel and i asked the Concierge if it was safe to walk and he assured me it was. We had a lovely dinner and walking back we saw this young coed walking by herself through the streets and realized it surely must be safe. These two images were taken on the same street in Milan Italy, seconds apart. Two women in different stages of life enjoying a beautiful Italian day. One struggling to take steps but determined to do so, the other young and strutting her stuff. You can see other photojournalistic and scenic images of Italy in my Europe portfolio by clicking here.
The entire pace of Milan Italy changes on Sunday morning, everything moves at a slower pace…well almost everything. Italy is a Catholic country and the one thing you will not be late for is Sunday Morning Mass. Churches are also almost the only buildings without graffiti. This young family has a purposeful stride which makes me think they are headed for Church and not a morning coffee like me. You cn buy a print of this image on my commercial site by clicking here.
