No, I am not talking about “Game of Thrones”. In the Pocono mountains winter comes early though, just like it does for the Starks. Last year we had our biggest snowfall in October. The leaves were not completely off the trees when we got our surprise snowfall last year and it made a colossal mess. I am hoping for even less snow this year, I hate winter! A Winter Oak
When the leaves start to change color and I prepare for capturing new foliage images, I remember this image and think of Deuce our old Border Collie. Deuce was a unique dog. He was smart enough that I could walk through the country with him as a companion and actually take pictures. I don’t thing that Shadow, our new dog will ever offer that possibility. As each dog is unique each Autumn day is also unique. This one was a beauty with deep color and a young Deuce protecting my blindside. Deuce on a Country Lane
Most still photographers don’t think about panning very much. Panning is commonly used in cinematography but in still photography will cause motion blur. Sometimes motion blur can make an image work by giving the illusion of motion. If you place the camera on a tripod and pan with the action during a slow shutter speed you can still create blurred motion but through panning make the subject blur less. This was shot at an exposure of 1 second and the camera was panned with the action during exposure. The panning causes the background to blur but by panning with the action the deer are not blurred as much making them stand out. You can see more of my nature images at my gallery by clicking here
Running Deer
Montreal is unmistakably a French City in the Canadian Province of Québec. You may forget that because most people speak English and the city is very cosmopolitan. If you speak English they will speak English and if you speak French they may have some trouble understanding you since their dialect is different than the French that is taught in USA schools. Although we are closer to Québec, we teach French in the way it is spoken in France. This is something I have never completely comprehended. This is the beautiful Place de Armes as taken from the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral (yes there is also a Notre Dame in Montréal). Outside of vernon France about an hour from Paris is Monet’s house at Giverny. I always had the feeling that Monet was near sighted and too vain to wear glasses which explained his unique style. However, after seeing his house and gardens at Giverny I changed my opinion. I think he painted what he saw. This photo has great depth of field and is in focus, yet it is “soft” in appearance due to the willow trees and other vegetation. You can buy a print of this image at my gallery by clicking here.

Every summer we have special visitors as the hummingbirds fly up from the south to visit. They seem to love red flowers the best so we plant flowers specifically to attract them. Summer Hummingbirds
As a child you learn that the wind is an invisible and powerful force. As you grow, you begin to learn how to see the wind through the movement of objects. When sand blow i your face at the beach it is the wind, when the trees rustle in the forrest it is because of wind. You can see the winds aloft by looking at clouds and ripples in the water cause by summer breezes. Wind is also the friend or enemy of fire firefighters.
