One of the best ways to see Montreal is to take a carriage ride. It is also the easiest way since Montreal is a city of hills and essentially built on a mountain. One of the most beautiful buildings we saw in Amsterdam was Den Waag (The Weigh House) which dates back to the old fortifications of the city. As we walked towards it we knew nothing about it. We thought it was a castle and maybe we could get a tour. Turns out it is now a cafe and quite a good one. Being hungry, we stopped for lunch and the food was as wonderful as the candlelit interior. Every summer we have special visitors as the hummingbirds fly up from the south to visit. They seem to love red flowers the best so we plant flowers specifically to attract them. As a child you learn that the wind is an invisible and powerful force. As you grow, you begin to learn how to see the wind through the movement of objects. When sand blow i your face at the beach it is the wind, when the trees rustle in the forrest it is because of wind. You can see the winds aloft by looking at clouds and ripples in the water cause by summer breezes. Wind is also the friend or enemy of fire firefighters. One of the best reasons to travel through France is the food. Sure the gardens are great and monuments are spectacular but the food rivals both. Even a simple meal in a Cafe is special and the food on the street is also worthy. There is no place in the United States that knows how to celebrate American holidays better than New England. Since I have family there, I always spend Thanksgiving there and sometimes the 4th of July as well. A few years ago I went with my family to the Sudbury Massachusetts Independence Day parade.
