Pennsylvania’s Niagara

Comparing any waterfall to Niagara is probably a mistake. Out of all the waterfalls I have seen, nothing compares to Niagara. However, Bushkill falls in Pennsylvania is still spectacular. It is actually a collection of eight different waterfalls. However, what makes it special is the walkways and steps they have built to offer a variety of hikes through the falls. The entrance and signage are kind of hokey and the attractions they have added for the kids are fairly lame. However the falls are spectacular. This is the main falls at Bushkill.

There is a scenic drive in California that is not to be missed. It is called 17-Mile Drive and is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach on the Monterrey Peninsula. There are many scenic views along the drive like the Lone Cypress and the Famous Pebble Beach Golf Course. There is a small island off shore that is called Seal island which was one of the highlights for me because I love seeing wildlife in a natural environment. George Duke is an amazing piano and keyboard player. He played with Frank Zappa on Chunga’s Revenge, 200 Motels, WakawaJawaka, The Grand Wazoo, Apostrophe, Over-Nite Sensation, One Size Fits All, Bongo Fury and Roxy and Elsewhere. He has also played with other artists like Stanley Clarke and Jean Luc Ponty and has a successful and current career as a solo artist. George Romero

As a journalist on a movie set you have a license to observe and report. What I found interesting was the mood swings that are cause by events. In this image, the Director, George Romero and Director of Photography (DP) Michael Gornick were trying to figure out how to deal with the reflections from the fountain. The two shots were taken seconds apart on the set of Dawn of the Dead at Monroeville Mall in 1978.. You can buy a print of this image at my commercial gallery by clicking here.

Time for a Beer?

People will argue about anything. One of the most frequent arguments you hear in taverns and bars is which beer is the best. This argument is specious at its core. It is like saying which food is best. In summer one may choose a lighter beer and on Saint Patrick’s Day, anything but Harp or Guinness is just not proper in my opinion. However, it is also in my opinion that the best beer in the world comes from Belgium. With over 2000 beer brands you have a world of choice in Belgium. Day Lilly

We didn’t see this flower last year. The dog we were fostering, Shadow, seemed to think they were special treats just for him. I tried taking pictures of it a couple of years ago before Shadow but could not get the color right. The gardener, my lovely wife, says that this matches the plant color perfectly. The Crown Jewel of the Summer Garden

In Spring the highlight of the garden are the Tulips and Daffodils. In Fall Mums are my favorite showy flower. There are so many flowers in summer that offer color and beauty it is hard to pick a favorite but if I had to I would pick the Lily. The flowers are large, last a long time and come in a variety of beautiful colors. This one of the best from 2013 in a deep orange or umber color. When you walk across the Clemente Bridge in Pittsburgh to go to PNC Park it is closed to traffic during baseball games. A Night at the Ball Park

When I went to see the Pirates play in Pittsburgh, I only had my 50mm- 300mm zoom lens so I was unable to take the “definitive scenic shot” of PNC park. I did get a few shots that provide a little bit of the feel of being in this wonderful baseball park. I grew up with Forbes Field and hated it when the Pirates didn’t have their own field and had to share with the Steelers. This ballpark provides the same kind of feel that Forbes Field except of course with more modern conveniences and better food. See more images and buy prints and apparel at my commercial site.
