Sunday at the Park

Paris is like any other major city, things slow down on Sunday. In the summer people have a lot of Parks to choose from in Paris. Parc Monceau,Jardin des Tuileries and Jardin du Palais Royal are some of the better known spots. However, my favorite is the Jardin du Luxembourg adjacent to Luxembourg Palace which is the center of the French Government. It is very large with many different spaces and you can see lovers kissing, joggers jogging and some of the most beautiful gardens in the world. This image sums up Sunday in Paris to me. Almost a Kiss

The Padlocks on the Seine In Paris

When we visited Paris last summer we knew that there was a tradition of people putting Padlocks on the bridge at Pont de l’Archevêché. Our travels did not take us over that bridge this time but we saw the that there were also locks on the bridge at Pont des Arts. You can read more about this in the David Lebovitz article on the subject called The Padlocks of Paris.. Basically lovers put a padlock on the bridge to celebrate their love. Officials seem to be letting people do this on these two bridges and I know next time we visit we will have a padlock with us. You can see more prints of Europe in my gallery by clicking here.

A Pan Asian Great in Orléans France

Our last stop in Europe was Orléans France. We had had a number of great pan asian meals in Paris including awesome Sushi. As we were touring Orléans it was way past lunch time and we were studying our map to try to figure out where all the restaurants were. A beautiful young French woman asked if we were lost and we said,no just hungry. My wife wanted to speak French to her and she wanted to speak english to us. She told us she was headed towards “restaurant row” and she would guide us. After walking with her and chatting for about ten minutes we came out in an area loaded with restaurants. Good Night Kiss

Paris is the City of Lights and nighttime seems to be a social lubricant for kissing. As I am working on my book, I also realize that night time kisses in public are harder to capture. Mirror with a Canal View

A lot of tourists miss the canal area of Milan. There are a number of clubs in the area and it is close to some less desirable areas of the city. However, the canal is also lined with antique shops and charming cafes. Den Waag in Amsterdam

One of the most beautiful buildings we saw in Amsterdam was Den Waag (The Weigh House) which dates back to the old fortifications of the city. As we walked towards it we knew nothing about it. We thought it was a castle and maybe we could get a tour. Turns out it is now a cafe and quite a good one. Being hungry, we stopped for lunch and the food was as wonderful as the candlelit interior. Le Canard Confit

One of the best reasons to travel through France is the food. Sure the gardens are great and monuments are spectacular but the food rivals both. Even a simple meal in a Cafe is special and the food on the street is also worthy. Items that can only be purchased in high class restaurants in the United States are common in France like duck and rabbit. This is some crispy succulent Duck Confit at a Paris Bistro. One thing you can never forget while traveling through Italy is that it is indeed a Catholic country. The city of Milan is covered with graffiti as I have commented in other posts but there is not a single drop of paint on any church. I really believe that that this is because graffiti artists are too respectful of their religion and gang bangers are too scared.
