A Windmill in Paris

If someone would have told me there was a windmill in the center of Paris, I would have doubted them. Silly me because as we climbed the hill on Montmartre, there it was. Larger than life and looking more French than Dutch. It is right behind the Moulin Cafe and near the Basilica. You can buy a print of this image of my commercial site by clicking here.

Warm Up for Pari-Roller

The world’s largest skating event takes place every Friday night in Paris France, it is called Pari-Roller. Similar events occur in other european cities, but none as large as the Paris event. The skaters begin to gather at Gare Montparnasse around 9:30 and get the week’s skating route. At 10 P.M. close to 10,000 skaters have gathered and begin to skate through the city until 3 A.M. Some dress in costumes, some are part of teams and some just come to watch, like me. This young lady is warming up for the event. Begin the Beguine

I first learned about Beguines when I began to travel to Belgium in the early the late 1980’s. My only previous reference point was my father singing Cole Porter’s “Begin the Beguine” when I was a kid. The Beguines were a religious order of the Catholic Church that focused on healing the sick and wounded. In 1776, the City of Bruges dedicated a new “Beguine House” and Chapel near the town center. It is beautiful, quiet and pristine place to visit while touring the city. Many Americans are drawn to the entry gate since the dedication date is also the date of our nation’s birth. It makes you realize how old Europe. You can buy a print of this image on my commercial gallery by clicking here.

Giverny Kiss

What Better place than Monet’s famous water garden to steal a kiss? The mood of the place is romantic to its core. The famous house and wonderful gardens are like stepping in to a Monet Painting. Giverny is located near Vernon, France which is about one and half hours from Paris and worth the trip. You can buy a print of this image at my commercial gallery by clicking here.

Iao’s Needle

Maui is a magic place. We have been there four times and will go back. On our first trip we discovered there was a lot more to the island than snorkeling and the wonderful beaches. Our first time there we discovered Iao Valley Sate Park. We tend to stop there each trip. There are miles of walkways, numerous waterfalls and the jungle covered mountain called Iao’s Needle. What’s In a Name?

I always thought that terrine was just another name for pâté. I learned through my travels that they are different, but both are delicious. In French or Belgian cuisine, a pâté is baked in a crust as pie. However, if it is baked in baked in a mold it is know as a terrine. This one was from a Parisian cafe and most excellent.
