The French Open and Pari-Roller

This weekend is the finals of the French Open. It is also Friday and time for the world’s largest skating event called Pari-Roller. Similar events occur in other european cities, but none as large as the Paris event which happens every Friday night but should be special tonight because of the French Open. The skaters begin to gather at Gare Montparnasse around 9:30 and get the week’s skating route. At 10 P.M. close to 10,000 skaters have gathered and begin to skate through the city until 3 A.M. Some dress in costumes, some are part of teams and some just come to watch, like me. This guy was the best and you can buy a T-shirt by clicking here.

My Favorite Model

I have had a wonderful life so far and over the years photographed a lot of people. However, my favorite model has always been my wonderful bride. This year we celebrate our 42nd year of marriage and we are still happy and in love. Isn’t that the way it is supposed to work? This is her in the early 1970’s near Philadelphia Pennsylvania. It’s Friday Night in Paris time for Pari-Roller!

This is my best viewed video ever with over 1000 views on Vimeo and Youtube so let’s revisit Pari-Roller. It’s Friday night in Paris. Thousands will gather at Gare Montparnasse to skate through the city at night. I liked it so much I even made a T-shirt which you can buy a T-Shirt at my commercial site by clicking here.

Brera at Night

A great place to dine in Milan is in the Brera which is one of the arts districts in the City. It was not far from our hotel and i asked the Concierge if it was safe to walk and he assured me it was. We had a lovely dinner and walking back we saw this young coed walking by herself through the streets and realized it surely must be safe. You can buy a print of this one or see others on my European Gallery by clicking here.

Pinching the Tower

I first noticed people doing this years ago in New York city. People all over the world try to get a unique perspective on a monument or palace by pinching it. If the angle is right, one can create a unique perspective or comical picture. One of the most famous is people pushing or leaning against the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I don’t think these people got it right, they are too close to the Eiffel Tower, but they sure look like they had fun trying. This was shot across the river from the tower atTrocadero Plaza. Time to Skate

It’s friday night in Paris so it is time for Pari-Roller! Do you have what it takes to skate through the streets of Paris from 10 PM until Dawn? I don’t and never did, but this guy does. You know if he has lighted skates, he has got to be good. See other images from my Europe Gallery by clicking here.

Friday Night

Emily in the Studio

Back in the day, special effects had to be created in the studio or in the darkroom. We didn’t have little drag and drop toys, cloning brushes, layers and other digital tools. Creativity started with the camera and the lighting. There was no auto-exposure, auto focus and vibration reduction. Don’t get me wrong, I love digital photography and have abandoned the old ways entirely. However, sometimes that feels like a sell out. This special effect was created in the studio using only a slide projector for lighting. I used this technique with a few models but this is the only one that can be shown since the others contain nudity but they can be seen in my commercial gallery by clicking here. You can purchase a print of this image by clicking here.

Park Kiss

What causes a couple to suddenly kiss? The warm sun, a beautiful sunny day, the joy of being alive or is it something sexual. As I work on my new book, I am finding out that people kiss for a variety of reasons and most of them unrelated to their loins. Sure passionate kisses are part of romance but people kiss as a form of greeting or when saying goodbye. People hug and kiss to express joy and to console people in moments of sadness. I think however, that this kiss in a Paris garden was more related to the loins. You can buy a copy of this image and see other kisses by clicking here.

Mirror with a Canal View

A lot of tourists miss the canal area of Milan. There are a number of clubs in the area and it is close to some less desirable areas of the city. However, the canal is also lined with antique shops and charming cafes. You can see a more scenic view of the canal and the colorful buildings that line the area in an earlier post The Canals of Milano. You can buy a print of this image by clicking here.
