Sunset Walk

We have been back from Florida for two weeks now. Hole up in our mountain abode surrounded still by mountains of snow. Fortunately the snow is melting slowly so we can avoid some local flooding. Each day we watch the temperature creep up into the high twenties or low thirties and opt to walk on the treadmill watching episodes of Warehouse 13. I wish I could teleport and just take a walk on the beach. Note to self,”Stay south through March!”.

Sunset Sail

There is a major reason I like West Florida better than East Florida. On the east coast everyone gets up early to see the sunrise over the beach. I don’t like getting up too early. On the West coast everyone heads for the beach to see the Sunset. A perfect time of day to see nature’s beauty and most days there are beautiful sunsets at Clearwater Beach. The only thing better would be to on one of those sailboats.

Togetherness

I was sitting on the beach with my telephoto zoom lens and saw this toddler running towards the waves by herself. Where are her handlers I thought. A young runner ran in front of her and she turned and ran away from the water. She sat down as I zoomed out and saw this group of young ladies paying absolutely no attention to her.

The little girl sat and played in the sand by herself. Well who am I to judge, maybe she wanted it that way. I assumed one of the young ladies was her mother but then I moved on.

Along the Tampa Riverwalk

People have told me that Tampa is a great city but people don’t live downtown. If true, that is not apparent from walking along the Tampa river. People walking their dogs, children running like crazy in the playgrounds and teens skateboarding are just a few examples I saw while strolling along the river on a Saturday night.

Perfect Flare

When shooting directly into the sun you can get an unwanted reflection off the lens elements within the lens. This is known as lens flare. Sometimes you can’t see these in the viewfinder and when shooting sunsets it is best to frequently slightly change your angle to assure you capture an image without flares. (https://imageryphoto.net/2014/01/29/pirate-sunset/)

I could have tried for days to create this flare without success. It almost looks as if a spotlight is on this couple watching the sunset.

Summer Sunday in Paris

Paris is like any other major city, things slow down on Sunday. In the summer people have a lot of Parks to choose from in Paris. Parc Monceau,Jardin des Tuileries and Jardin du Palais Royal are some of the better known spots. However, my favorite is the Jardin du Luxembourg adjacent to Luxembourg Palace which is the center of the French Government. It is very large with many different spaces and you can see lovers kissing, joggers jogging and some of the most beautiful gardens in the world. This image sums up Sunday in Paris to me. Summer Fun

Labor Day weekend usually signifies the end of Summer. Once again, the kids are back in school and traffic and schedules for everyone become more rigid because of it. Even if you don’t have children, you don’t want to get caught behind “the late bus” climbing up the mountain on a two lane road. So here is a video highlighting some fun we had this Summer. Drumline

It is not unusual to see street musicians in the summer in any USA city. That is especially true for New York City and Central Park. It is also interesting to see how different musicians create changes in crowd behavior. A string quartet will cause people to sit or gather and quietly listen for a while. A folk singer may cause people to slow down or run away depending on the song and quality. Drummers though make people behave. People tend to walk quickly and in step to the beat. If I was the New York City Parks Commissioners I would pay these guys a fee to be near the most congested areas to keep the crowds moving. These guys were great and well worth a buck. A Passing Moment

To be a good photographer you must give yourself permission to observe the world around you. In my world this includes people which means you have to give yourself permission to be a little bit of a voyeur. Some can’t do that and limit their work to flowers or vistas and there is nothing wrong with that. Being a photographer is about setting limits. One friend looked at my work for “Just a Kiss” and said that I was shameless and really had big cohones. This made me glow, what a compliment for a street photographer. I like to photograph the little moments of life, a hug, a kiss, a passing moment. You can buy a print of this image at my commercial gallery.
